On June 15th , the 6th annual George Leger Memorial Golf 4 the Food Bank golf tournament was held at Dalewood Golf Club. The day certainly delivered! Perfect sunny weather saw more than 90 golfers participate in the day’s event. 42 hole sponsorships and over 85 merchants contributed to the success of the tournament. Between sponsors and golfers, over $34,000 was raised. The golf tournament continues to be a major fundraiser for the Food Bank and the funds will go towards purchases of food including milk, meat and fresh produce.
“Much of this would not be possible without the hard work of our volunteers,” explained Brittany Roberge, Golf Committee Chair, “over 30 volunteers helped in every aspect of the tournament, without them, we wouldn’t have a result like this.”
When asked what made this tournament unique, Roberge explained that the key was variety on the course. “It is hard to keep golf tournaments fresh and different especially when there are so many causes that hold them throughout the summer. We continued the tradition started last year incorporating some really fun on-course games that didn’t necessarily require PGA skills to win.”
A big thank you again to all of the sponsors, donors, golfers and volunteers, you are truly helping to feed your neighbours.
Mark your calendars! Next year’s tournament will be held at Port Hope Golf & Country Club on June 21, 2019. For photos and information on this year’s tournament go to Fare Share’s facebook page @FareShareFoodBank. or the Golf Tournament page at Golf 4 The Food Bank
